Pergola Apartment I Overview
First Impressions
You know what struck me first about Pergola Apartment I? It’s not trying to be something it isn’t. This three-star spot in Lagoúdi Zía has this refreshingly honest charm that I honestly wasn’t expecting. The moment you arrive, there’s this immediate sense that you’ve found something genuinely local — not some cookie-cutter tourist accommodation. The pergola structure that gives the place its name creates these lovely shaded areas that actually make a difference during those hot Kos afternoons.
Location & Village Life
Lagoúdi Zía sits on the slopes of Mount Dikaios, and I mean this in the best possible way — you’re properly up in the mountains here. The village itself is small enough that you’ll recognize faces after a day or two, but it’s got this authentic Greek mountain village vibe that’s become pretty rare on the islands. What really matters is that you’re about a 20-minute drive from Kos town, which gives you the best of both worlds. The sunsets from up here are something else entirely — locals will tell you Zía has some of the best sunset spots on the island, and honestly, they’re not wrong.
The Apartment Experience
The apartment itself feels like staying at a friend’s place rather than a hotel room, which I actually prefer. There’s proper space to spread out, and the kitchen setup means you can grab fresh ingredients from the village and cook if you want to. The traditional Greek architecture details — you’ll notice them in the stonework and the way the spaces flow together — give it character that modern hotels just can’t replicate. Air conditioning works well (important in summer), and the Wi-Fi is reliable enough for staying connected.
Mountain Village Perks
Here’s something you might not expect — the elevation makes a real difference to the temperature. Even in peak summer, evenings up in Zía are genuinely pleasant, sometimes even requiring a light jacket. The village has a handful of traditional tavernas where you’ll eat alongside Greek families, not just tourists. There’s also easy access to hiking trails if that’s your thing, including paths that lead to some incredible viewpoints. The local honey is exceptional — I mean, mountain wildflower honey that you can actually buy directly from beekeepers.
Why Guests Love It
That 9.0 rating makes complete sense once you’ve stayed here. Couples particularly seem to appreciate the peaceful atmosphere and the romantic sunset situation — it’s the kind of place where you can actually relax without feeling like you’re missing out on something. The hosts clearly know what they’re doing, and there’s this attention to detail that you notice in small ways throughout your stay. It’s not upscale in the five-star sense, but it’s genuinely comfortable and authentic in a way that feels increasingly rare. Plus, you’re getting that highly-rated location advantage without paying resort prices.
Exploring Bodrum layers blue-flag beaches, ancient ruins, and moonlit dinners over the Aegean.

Reviews of Pergola Apartment I
Gordon from Greece (9/10)
Excellent hosts who could not have been more helpful. We arrived just before 1am and they were awake and expecting us. They arranged parking for our small car (despite this not being part of our 'deal'. They gave us figs, cake, water and many other food/drink items.
