It’s close enough that you can walk to the harbor and all those waterfront tavernas in about five minutes, but far enough back that you actually get some peace when you want it. The beach access is what really sold me though — no need for those crowded hotel shuttles or expensive taxi rides that eat into your vacation budget.

The Room Experience

The rooms at Kalimera Mare are what I’d call “thoughtfully simple.” They’re not going to wow you with marble bathrooms or designer furniture, but everything works perfectly and the beds are actually comfortable (which, let’s be honest, isn’t always a given in Greece). The balconies face different directions depending on your room, but even the ones without sea views give you nice glimpses of the surrounding hills. Air conditioning works well — crucial during those sweltering July afternoons when you need a midday break from the sun.

Food That Actually Impresses

Here’s where Kalimera Mare really surprised me. The breakfast buffet covers all the bases — proper Greek yogurt with local honey, fresh fruit that’s actually ripe, and they handle dietary restrictions without making you feel like a burden. Vegetarian and gluten-free options aren’t just afterthoughts here. But it’s the dinner recommendations from the staff that really made our stay special. They pointed us toward this little family taverna about ten minutes away that we never would have found otherwise, and it ended up being our best meal of the trip.

What makes this place work is the attention to details that matter. Free parking might not sound exciting, but when you’re exploring Kos by car (which you should), not worrying about where to leave it each night is genuinely helpful. The staff remembers your name after a day or two, and they give you real local advice — not just the standard tourist recommendations. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying somewhere the locals would actually approve of, rather than just another hotel that happens to be in Greece. For a three-star property, Kalimera Mare punches well above its weight.

  Spotlessly clean and close to beach – need swimming shoes beach is rocky. Staff lovely and very helpful. Breakfast was a buffet and excellent! Bus to Kardamaina stops outside the door- 20 minutes in (goes through a big complex on way in) and only 8 minutes back!! Loved everything and hopefully will be back soon!!!
