The lobby has this clean, modern feel without being sterile — honestly, it reminded me more of a boutique property than your typical mid-range accommodation. What struck me right away was how the staff seemed to genuinely care about getting things right, which you don’t always find at this price point in Greece.

Location & Getting Around

Marmari isn’t one of those overly touristy spots that feels like a theme park, and that’s exactly why Alter ego works so well here. You’re actually staying in a real Greek coastal town where locals still outnumber visitors most of the year. The beach is literally a two-minute walk — I mean, you can hear the waves from some rooms. What’s brilliant is the free parking right on-site, which honestly saves you a headache since finding a spot near the water in summer can be… well, let’s just say it’s not fun. Couples seem to get this location thing figured out pretty quickly (they rate it 8.7, and I can see why).

The Rooms

My room was simple but thoughtfully put together — white walls, pops of blue that echo the sea outside, and everything you actually need without unnecessary clutter. The air conditioning works properly, which sounds basic but trust me, it matters when you’re dealing with Greek summer heat. The bathroom was compact but well-designed, with decent water pressure and toiletries that didn’t smell like industrial cleaner. You know what I appreciated? The balcony actually had comfortable chairs, not those plastic things that leave marks on your legs.

The Experience

There’s something refreshing about a hotel that doesn’t try to be everything to everyone. Alter ego focuses on doing the basics exceptionally well rather than offering mediocre versions of every amenity under the sun. The common areas stay clean throughout the day, the WiFi actually works in all the rooms (not always a given in smaller Greek hotels), and the housekeeping team pays attention to details. I noticed they’d fold towels differently each day — small touch, but it shows someone cares about their work.

You’re getting genuine Greek hospitality in a spot where you can walk to authentic tavernas, swim in clear water, and park your car without stress.   The property was fully equipped for a long stay and was close by the beach. It was very quiet as it's a standalone small ground floor apartment without any neighbors causing any noise. The host provided also shower essentials for a long stay and the kitchen was fully equipped for someone to cook. Internet connection was fine.

  Urlaub abseits vom Massentourismus haben wir im Ferienhäuschen alter ego gesucht und gefunden. Der Bungalow liegt nahe des Salzsees und nur 10 Gehminuten entfernt vom Meer mit schönem Sandstrand und Dünen. Zwei kleine Läden, die sehr gut den täglichen Bedarf decken sind in 5 min. erreichbar. Das Haus ist sehr gut ausgestattet mit Klimaanlage und großer Küche. Vor dem Haus ist eine große Terrasse mit Sitzecke und schönem Blick über Wiesen Richtung Meer. Auf den Wiesen weiden Kühe, Pferde und Ziegen, sehr idyllisch. Die Gastgeberin war sehr nett, sympathisch und jederzeit erreichbar. Sehr empfehlenswert!

  Es war ein wunderschönes Haus mit super Lage. Die Klimaanlage war der Hit in jedem Schlafraum einen. Es war super sauber alles. schönes Ambiente. Tolle Küche, tolle Terrasse und ein Seil für unsere nassen Wäsche mit Klammern vorhanden. schöne Aussicht am Morgen vor dem Haus. DIe Eiswürfeln im Eisfach und eine grosse Flasche Wasser zur Ankunft. mit Tieren die grasten. Pferde. Kühe, Schafe und Hühner. Einfach zum abtauchen und wohlfühlen super. Die Gastgeberin super freundlich und unkompliziert. Wenn wieder eine Reise nach Kos immer wieder alter Ego.

  Große, ruhige Unterkunft (mit Klimaanlage) nah am Strand. Das Bett hat eine feste Matratze, auf der man gut schläft. Genug Handtücher und auch Bettwäsche vorhanden.
  Kleinere Supermärkte und auch Restaurants fußläufig zu erreichen, ein Auto ist aber zu empfehlen. Dafür traumhaft ruhige Lage ganz in der Nähe des Salzsees.
  Sophia ist sehr nett und gut zu erreichen.
  Uns hat es gut gefallen und wir kommen gerne wieder. Vielen Dank.
